Why do people say “you only live once” like I’m dying tomorrow

I’m a very anxious person and I like to live within my means. I’ve seen many travel posts on this sub and most of the time they’re great. But it seems like there’s this attitude that you shouldn’t be fiscally responsible and save, and you should spend all your money so you can have fun experiences.

I don’t doubt that these experiences are fun and fulfilling, but there’s this attitude that whatever money you have, you should throw it all out the window and spend it on enjoying yourself. It frustrates me to see this.

For me, money is freedom. I can travel where I want, but I don’t have to. I don’t have to spend a lot on food or clothes or anything else. I just like living within my means and experiencing what I like at my own pace, which is slower than average. I like being cautious and careful with my money, because I don’t know what the future holds. I don’t want to rip up my money and spend freely, I want to keep a good amount of money on hand for emergencies.

I’m not saying that all travel is bad, but I wish there was more advice for being frugal and not being wasteful.
