CMV: The US Government should pay a ransom for Brittney Griner and its other citizens held in Russia

For those who are unaware, Brittney Griner has been detained in Russia for 100+ days, and the government has only just allowed her team to see her. The US Government claims they are doing everything they can to get her back, but I don't think they are doing enough to help get back their citizens. The US Government is capable of protecting its citizens its citizens just fine, but here they are dragging their feet. I think part of this is because they're going to be super hard to get back because of the Ukraine War, and the government is stalling as long as they can, holding out hope that Russia will come to the table for negotiations. <br><br>Brittney Griner is just the most well known, as her case is the most recent, but there are several Americans being held in Russia currently. It's the duty of government to protect their citizens, and at this point, the government is more worried about losing face in a bluff they're making than making sure their citizens are safe.<br><br>I think the US government should, first, pay the ransom but refuse to let them get away scott free. They should immediately put out a Washington to go and hit the people responsible for this arrest and imprisonment. Yes, that would blow up diplomacy with Russia, but they're already doing everything they can in Ukraine, so there's not much left to lose anyway.
