My ex-brother in-law nearly killed my twin sister and I, and we almost met our maker when I was 9 months pregnant. My husband and I were stuck in a small room with our newborn baby while we heard him try and break into our apartment. He nearly beheaded my brother in-law with an axe.

My husband Chris and I have been married for 10 years now. We have two children together, our son Maksymilian Nathan whom we named after my grandfather on both sides (he passed away 2 months after our son was born), and our daughter Opheliana Sage.

I was 9 months pregnant with Opheliana when this happened.

My twin sister "Goldie" was engaged to "Troy" when I was 19. My husband Chris and I met when I was 20, and we got married when I was 24. So when Goldie got married, I was still living with our parents, as I still hadn't moved out and was dating casually.

"Troy" seemed like a great guy, he was funny and always had everyone laughing whenever he was around. He treated my sister great, he was kind, caring, and genuinely seemed to love her. Everything was great for about 6 months, then little by little, "Troy" began to reveal his true personality.

He was controlling, he would get jealous over nothing, and would accuse Goldie of cheating, even though she was still living at home with our parents, and had never gone anywhere without him when she was pregnant. He would get angry over nothing, and would actually hit her when she was 5 months pregnant. He would get mad at her for gaining weight from eating, and actually threw her lunch one day when he saw her eating a sandwich. He would get mad at her for wearing certain things in front of her when she was pregnant, he would get mad at her for wearing a tank top when she was 8 months pregnant.

My parents tried to tell Goldie to leave him, but she was stubborn and didn't think he was all that bad.

Then there were the red flags.

One time, when we all went out to dinner at a restaurant, "Troy" got mad at my sister because another guy at the table flashed her, and she laughed. "Troy" got so mad he actually threw a glass of milk all over my parents, and was shouting at her in front of everyone. My parents were beyond disgusted, and tried to pay for our meals and get us out of there as fast as possible.

Another time, when Goldie was 6 months pregnant, "Troy" had to work late one night, so she decided to go out to a bar with my husband and me. While there, she was wearing a big belly bump, and a low-cut top. Another guy at the bar flirted with her, and she was laughing and having a great time, when "Troy" walked in and started causing a scene. He actually punched the guy in the face, and then started shouting at my sister in front of everyone, until the bouncers had to throw him out.

At that point, my parents, my husband, and I tried to convince her to leave him, but she never listened to us, and kept insisting that he wasn't all that bad.

Then, the day after my son was born, everything went horribly wrong.

We were staying at my parents house, as Chris' parents lived out of state and he didn't want to leave me alone at our apartment. So the day after we brought our son home to my parents, I was laying in bed when Goldie called to tell me that "Troy" had been arrested for trying to break into her apartment.

Apparently, she had left him at our parents house so she could do some grocery shopping. When she got back, she couldn't find him anywhere. Our parents thought he had left on his own free will to give her time to herself, but when they went to call him, his phone went straight to voicemail.

They tried calling his work, and his boss told them he never showed up. My parents started worrying, and went to check on him at the house. When they got there, his car was there, but there was no sign of him. They tried calling his cell again, and this time, they got a location. He was 2 blocks away from our parents house, which was only 2 blocks from Goldie's apartment.

The police were called, and when they got there, they found "Troy" smashing Goldie's car window. They told him to stop or they would use force. He didn't stop, so they used pepper spray, and arrested him on the spot.

When they searched his car, they found several knives, a baseball bat, and a small axe.

It turns out, that while Goldie was out running errands, "Troy" had been texting a woman he was having an affair with. She lived in the same building as Goldie, and when "Troy" found out she wasn't home, he went to her building. When she told him she wasn't available to meet up, he became angry, and started making his way back to Goldie's apartment.

Thankfully, the woman he was having an affair with decided to end it with him, because she was tired of his aggression and anger. She knew that Goldie was pregnant, and didn't want things to get violent. She wanted to end things with him before it got too bad. If she hadn't, who knows what could have happened.

When the police read him his rights and asked him why he was trying to break into Goldie's apartment, he told them, he was just going to "scare" her, and then go back to his normal self. He told the police that he loved Goldie, and he was just trying to "teach" her a lesson because she wasn't giving him enough attention.

He was read his Miranda rights, arrested on the spot, and thrown in the back of a police cruiser. He was later booked into the local jail, where he remained until his hearing.

During his hearing, the police showed the court all the items they found in his car. The judge ordered him to have a mental evaluation, where he was diagnosed with Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, and Paranoid Personality Disorder. The court ordered that he remain in a mental institution until he was deemed fit to stand trial.

When he was finally deemed fit, he was tried and convicted of Attempted Break and Enter with Intent, Use of a Weapon in Committing an Offense, and Breach of Recognize. He was sentenced to 5 years in a maximum security prison, with no chance of parole until he had served 3 years.

We were all shaken up, especially Goldie. She was terrified to be all alone in her apartment, and was terrified that he would get out early and try to come after her. The courts allowed her to have a protection from abuse order against him, and even allowed her to keep the order active even after he was incarcerated.

Chris and I made arrangements to stay in our apartment for the time being, as it was the safest place for us to be, especially since we were expecting our second child. We asked my parents to stay with Goldie for a while, until she could find a way to feel safe again. Chris and I were also concerned about our dog, as he was usually very protective of Goldie, but when she was around "Troy", he never barked once, and seemed to be very timid around him. We decided to have him trained to be more protective, in case "Troy" ever got out.

The only person who felt bad for "Troy" was our other brother, "Brandon". He had always been the "golden boy", the one who could do no wrong. Everyone loved him, and he lived a very sheltered life. He was the one who bailed "Troy" out of jail when his car broke down, and even got him a job at the company he worked at at the time. Brandon even bailed him out of prison when he was sentenced, as he believed "Troy" was being wrongly accused and convicted.

The rest of us, however, were beyond relieved that he was finally where he needed to be, and that Goldie was finally safe.

Fast forward 2 months.

My husband Chris and I were enjoying parenting our son, and were excited to finally meet our daughter. I was 2 months post partum when the unthinkable happened.

At around 3 in the morning, Chris and I were lying in bed, fast asleep, when we heard a loud knock at our front door. We both thought it was weird, as we didn't have any friends or family come over unannounced, and we weren't expecting anyone. Chris got out of bed to check, but when he looked through the peephole, he saw nobody there. We thought it was a wrong number, and figured it was over with.

10 minutes later, we heard knocking on our back door. Chris checked, but saw nobody again. We thought this was strange, as the back door was locked, and we didn't have any screens on it.

We tried to go back to bed, but then we heard a loud knock on our front door again. This time, when Chris looked, he saw my brother Brandon standing there. But what was weird, was that he was looking over his shoulder. Chris opened the door, and asked what was going on. Brandon looked around the hallways on both sides of our building, then said "Can I come in?" in a low voice. Chris looked at me, confused, and I shook my head no. Chris closed the door, and asked what was going on. Brandon looked at the walls on both sides of the hallway again, then said "It's Brandon. It's Troy.
