Some backstory, my grandma died back in 2020, not covid related but she was sick beforehand. My parents and her had a close relationship, she lived with us for a few years at the end but we would visit her almost every weekend before she moved in. Now my dad is a terrible cook, I’ve had to remind him multiple times how to make microwave mac and cheese, I love the guy but I just cannot trust him in the kitchen, after all why do you need to know how to cook when grandma can do it? He did learn how to make Rutabaga Casserole, it’s not really a normal dish, it looks like diarrhea but my grandmas version is fucking amazing, it’s like a taste sensation and a good chunk of our family love it and wish we could be there to eat with her again.

My sister got married back in Jan and this was the first big family gathering in a long time, especially after covid, my dad asked my sister if he could serve the Rutabaga Casserole and she said yes, he was planning on just bringing a couple dishes and give them out to people and let whoever want some have some.

Well my sisters new husband and his family hate our family, they think we’re the weirdest people ever and they don’t like how we hang out a lot, they think we’re a cult or something. They didn’t attend the wedding because they hated our family that much, it’s been a big source of contention between my sister and her husband.

They end up showing up at the reception, they go straight to the buffet, I guess they thought it was a potluck but really it was just my dad bringing the Rutabaga Casserole.

Long story short they thought we made a diarrhea dish to serve purposefully as a joke to embarrass them and my sister is really mad she says it’s all my dads fault, he should have just kept it in the car or something. My dad was pretty upset, it wasn’t his intention at all to embarrass them like that but I think they just can’t get over the fact we were eating diarrhea looking food. My dad just ended up bringing it back to his house and inviting half the family over to eat it there, it was great and everyone loved it.
