What if I'm not who you want me to be?

This happened about a year ago and it's still a bit scary if I think about it. I don't know how to describe it in the best way so I will tell the story and hope that you guys will understand.<br><br>Me and my friend were going to a local store. It was a dark night and it was pretty late so there weren't any people around. We were walking down a pretty quiet alley when we saw a guy leaning against a wall. He was wearing a black jacket with white text on it which said "I'm not here". I looked at my friend and she was a bit creeped out. I knew she was because I was too. We continued walking and the guy didn't say anything to us, he just stood there. <br><br>After about a minute or so he started walking towards us. We looked at each other and he stopped in front of us. I was about 5 feet away from him and he was about 5 feet away from my friend. He looked at me and then looked at my friend. I tried to act normal because I didn't want to seem scared. He looked at me and asked "Do you want me to walk with you guys? It's not safe." I looked at my friend again and she gave a small nod. He started walking with me. I was walking next to him and my friend was walking about 5 feet in front of me.<br><br>He told me his name and asked for mine. I told him my name. He asked if I was with my boyfriend. I said no. He asked what I was doing alone. I told him I was with a friend. He said "Oh. So you're a woman alone?" I replied with "Yes. That's why I'm here." He chuckled and said "Yeah, it's not safe at all." I said "I know. That's why I'm with you. It's a lot safer if I'm with you." He said "I know right?"<br><br>After about a minute of small talk he stopped and said "I know you're scared. I'm scared too." I looked at him. "Really?" He said "Yeah. I've never met a woman walking alone in this place." I asked him what he did and he told me he was a security guard. I asked if he had a gun. He said "I'm not allowed to." I said "I know. It's not safe. I'd rather be with you." He said "Me too. You know I'm not here to hurt you right?" I replied "No. I think you're here to protect me." He said "Good. I'm glad you think that. But don't you ever walk alone in a dark place at night, okay? It's not safe." I said "Okay. But I have to go. My mom will be worried if I don't come home soon." He said "Alright. I hope you get home safe. And if you don't come home soon, don't worry about it. Your mom will be fine." I said "I know. She's very strong." He said "Yes she is. She's amazing." We said our goodbyes and I walked off.<br><br>I met up with my friend and she asked me what he said. I told her and she looked at me. She asked me if I was okay and I said yes. I didn't want to tell her about how I was scared. She asked if he was nice and I said yes. I told her we had a good talk and she said she was glad. When we got home I asked my mom where the guy was and she said she didn't see him. I was a bit worried that she hurt him because I didn't want anything to happen to him. <br><br>The next day I was walking down the alley I saw him standing against the wall. I was happy to see him and I said hello. He smiled and asked what I was doing. I told him I was just walking around. He asked me if he could talk to me and I said yes. He asked me if I liked him and I asked what made him think I didn't like him. He said "Because you don't like me. You just like who you're supposed to like." I asked him what he was talking about and he said "Nothing. Nevermind." I said "It's alright. I like who I'm supposed to like. But I don't know if I like you." He said "Oh. Okay. It's alright. I don't mind. I like you. And I like who you like. And I don't mind who you like." I said "I like who I'm supposed to like. But you don't like who you're supposed to like." He said "I do. And that's why I'm not here." I asked him what he was talking about and he said "Nothing. Nevermind." I asked him what he meant and he said "I like you. I like your friend. I like your mom. And I don't mind who you like. And I don't mind who your mom likes." I said "I don't know if I should be scared of you." He said "I'm not here to hurt you. And don't worry about being scared of me. I'm not here to hurt you. But I don't like what you like. And I don't like your friend. But I like who you're supposed to like." I said "I like who I'm supposed to like. But I don't like what you like." He said "Alright. I like that. But I like you and I don't mind who you like. And I like your mom and your friend." I said "I'm glad. Because I like you and I like who you're supposed to like." He said "I'm glad too. Because I like you and I like who you like." I said "Alright. I'm glad. Because I like who you like." He said "Alright. I like you." I said "I like you too." We talked for a bit and I said goodbye. I saw him a few more times after that and we talked a bit. I didn't see him for a while and I wondered if he was okay. <br><br>I went to the store again with a different friend. I was walking down the alley and I didn't see him. I didn't see him again for a while. I thought maybe he wasn't okay and I was worried about him. I didn't see him for about three months.<br><br>The other day I went to the store again with a different friend. We were walking down the alley and I saw him standing against the wall. I was happy to see him and he smiled at me. I said hello and he asked me what I was doing. I told him I was just walking around. He asked me if he could talk to me and I said yes. He asked me if I liked him and I asked what made him think I didn't like him. He said "Because you don't like me. You just like who you're supposed to like." I said "I like you too." He smiled and said "Alright. I like you too." I asked him what he meant and he said "Nevermind." I asked him what he meant and he said "I like you too. But I'm not here to hurt you. I'm here to protect you. I don't like what you like. And I don't like your friend." I asked him what he meant and he said "I like who you're supposed to like. I don't like what you like. But I like who you like." I said "I like who I'm supposed to like. And I like you." He smiled and said "Alright. I like you too." I asked him what he meant and he said "I like you too.
