Something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention by a lot of young adults is the fact that your body will change dramatically in your 20’s.

Your metabolism slows down if you don’t keep your body working out and burning fat, you may gain or lose weight, you may quit certain habits that are unhealthy for you or start new ones. Essentially your body is still figuring out different things about itself, so the best thing you can do is just keep it healthy and strong.

Now, based on the title, you probably know where this is going. My nose was pierced in a shop while I was in my early twenties. At the time, I was almost 130 lbs, but by mid 30’s I was in my 170’s. I professionally got my nose pierced at the skinniest point of my face, but I’ve lost that fat since then. I don’t even notice it anymore, but people have pulled me aside to let me know that my nose piercing is slightly crooked. I’m pretty sure it’s because my face has changed weight distribution. I don’t care about the piercing, I’m not a big jewelry person and I’m happy to let my nose heal up. But the idea that people might notice this for some unknown reason bothers me. There’s a great pressure to invest in your looks and people telling me this makes me feel like I’ve let myself go.

I highly recommend if you’re getting your nose pierced to consider using a stick-on ring temporarily before committing to a professional piercing. At least that way you have the satisfaction of knowing you got to wear the piercing without having to deal with a professionally done piercing for years to come that you don’t like.
