Late to the party. How does one go about worldbuilding?

Here's my story:
I've been building worlds for over two decades. I have a hard time distinguishing reality, and fantasy. I used to be a Dungeons and Dragons dungeon master. Some of my campaigns went on for over a decade. In my most recent campaign I built a world so intricate it was hard to keep up with. The players could have easily taken a left turn at a fork in the road, or asked a single question, and the entire campaign could have changed. I like to think I'm not a very good storyteller, that I'm much better at creative problem solving.
I didn't have an imagination as a child, but as an adult it seems I've developed one. Recently I've been trying to learn to create digital art. I didn't have any experience with art before, so it's been a long journey. One day I decided I wanted to make a map. I lacked experience with digital painting so I drew line art with a mouse instead of painting a map. As I was drawing I realized I was building a world. I didn't even know what worldbuilding was until I started reading the posts on this sub.
Now I'm the opposite of how I used to be. I can see myself getting so caught up in the details, the intricate things. I used to be able to throw anything together, and be happy with it. Now I spend hours researching and looking at references. I can't seem to pull myself out of the details and look at the big picture. So here's my question. I understand that the details are important, but I've taken it to an insane level. I want to know how to take a step back and zoom out. How to look at a city, and just draw it without having to know every detail about every building. I want to get to the point where I can just draw things, and let my imagination fill in the rest. I've researched many of the worldbuilding guides, and most of them just focus on the details.
Any advice would be nice. I've been stuck on building the same city for three months now.
