My family is from an Asian country.

I study in the US and decided to visit my friends in Pennsylvania during my winter break before heading home. My friends live in a private student dormitory so I shared a room with my friend, Nick.

The room was on a high floor and the window faced the main road. We did not see any houses nearby, so we assumed no one could see into our room. As a result, we walked around with little clothing.

One day, all of us went out for dinner. When we came back, we noticed the window was slightly opened. We were absolutely sure we closed it before we left because it was freezing.

Then, strange things started to happen. We found our shirts missing, and sometimes, we caught a whiff of cigarette fumes in the air. We also found the window opened when we woke up in the morning.

It was raining one night. We were sure we closed and locked the window. When I woke up at 1am to use the bathroom, I saw the window opened. This was the same moment I saw a head popped into the room through the window and immediately hide when he saw me. I screamed and woke everyone up. We called the police.

We were advised to stay in a safe place and not to leave the room. When the police arrived, they saw no one by the window. We assumed the person might have escaped.

We looked around the room to see if anything was stolen. My friend realized his new shoes that his family gave him as a Christmas present were missing. We were all very upset. Then, we saw a pair of shoes on the floor by the window. It was my friend's shoes but they were soaked in water and dirty.

We were sure it was the person by the window who threw back my friend's shoes through the window. We called the police again. They told us someone must have thrown the shoes back to the room. They did not find anyone by the window.

We visited the police station the next day to file a report and asked if there have been similar reports of robberies or theft. The police told us there had been many similar reports in that area. But they could not do much because no one saw the person.

I was afraid to stay in the room and so were my friends. We kept looking over our shoulders the whole time. We decided to install security cameras in the room. It was expensive but we did not want to take any risks.

One night, we caught the thief on the camera. But it was not stealing. It was *peeping*. I cannot describe what he did. But it was disgusting. We called the police again. The police saw the footage and was able to identify the perp. They caught him and it was a super senior. The police told us we could file a report against him.

We visited the police station to file a report. When we saw him, we were shocked. The police caught the wrong guy. The guy in the footage had short hair but this guy had long hair. But the police said they were sure they caught the correct person.

We were disappointed but we decided to file a report anyway. We told them we were willing to press charges if they caught the correct person. The police asked us to identify the suspect. When we saw him, we were shocked. It was one of the police officers who came to take our report.

We told them we were going to tell everyone about this on social media. The police begged us not to do that. They offered us monetary compensation. We refused to take it and I called the police officer a sick fuck.

I am just glad nothing bad happened to me or my friends. But I was not afraid because I was a victim. I was afraid because someone like him could do anything. I am a student and I am supposed to enjoy the uni life. But no. This sick police officer ruined my experience.
