Order of Events for Worldbuilding?

I'm trying to create a world to write fantasy novels in, but I have no idea where to start. I've been trying, but it keeps getting out of hand because I think I'm doing it wrong. I've tried to start with the big picture, and then work my way down to the little details, but it doesn't seem to be working very well.<br><br>For example, I tried to decide North, south, east, west, but that doesn't make sense if I haven't decided the continents.<br><br>What is the best order of events to follow for worldbuilding? Or am I going about this the wrong way entirely?
