Why do people hate "waifus" that much?

I don't get it at all. <br>To me it's a matter of people not liking something so they bully that part of the fandom to death. <br><br>If you like a fictional character so much you can call her your "waifu" and I'm not the one who has to go home to her so idk why people care so much to the point where it's still a massive talking point after a decade or so.
