I had been designated to give a speech at my sister's wedding, I spent 3 days working on the speech, I wrote it with the help of a few of my friends, it was a very good, very touching speech, imo.

There was a part in the speech where I was going to talk about "if my sister ever feels unhappy, abused or mistreated she can always come to me, and she'll always have a home with me"

My parents and sister saw the speech, and they asked me to remove that part. I said no, It was the one thing in the speech that was specifically for my sister, and it was my promise to always be there for her, no matter what.

They began to argue with me over it, but I said no, I'll give the speech as is, otherwise I won't be giving it at all.

Then I get a call from my sister asking me to please remove the part, and promising that she doesn't need it, and it'll hurt her feelings if I said it, she said I can say it any other time, but during her wedding.

I said fine, and said the speech was dead, I wasn't giving it anymore, she pleaded, and I said I was only giving my speech as is, otherwise I wasn't giving any speech at all.

During the wedding, my name got called for the speech, everyone was expecting me to give it, but I just didn't, I felt betrayed that my sister didn't want me to tell her that she can come to me when she feels like she needs help, it was what our dad told us a long time ago, it was our own little passage we had, I was passing it down to her, she rejected it, I rejected giving any speech.

Now my family, and her new husband's family are mad at me for staying silent when my name was called, my parents say I embarrassed them, my sister cried, and many people asked me what happened, but I just didn't say anything, it wasn't anyone's business, I was supposed to say it to my sister and her only.

They've been bugging me for days now, but I just hung up whenever they called, my sister called yesterday asking if we had to talk things through, but I said she already said what she said, I said what I had to say, I've got nothing to say to her yet.

She said "I hoped we can at least be friends" I said "I'm not sure yet" and hung up.

AITA?
