A guy with no arms walked into my house

So, I’m a student mid-twenties and my dad is also a university professor, so because of this, I live in a separate part of the house, what he calls a “compound” which is basically a small annex with a bathroom and a bedroom separated with a door. To get to my compound I have to walk through the main house which is open to my dad and his family to hang out in whenever they want.

One evening when I’m walking through the house to get to the kitchen to get a snack, I see a man with no arms walking into the house through the back door, as if he owned the place. Now the strange thing about this is that we live in a house with 4 walls around it, which was locked, and it’s a pretty strange coincidence that my dad would be cooking in the kitchen and would leave the back door open.

I’m frozen because I’ve never seen a person with no arms before, my sisters and I are trying to figure out wtf is happening, and my dad and his wife are acting like they knew the man and were trying to make small talk with him. Finally, my little sister asks “Daddy, who’s this?” And he says “He’s here to fix the pipes”.

Now, the thing is we had NO broken pipes, so it was completely random, but I was too lazy to ask questions and assumed that my dad must have scheduled him without telling me because he doesn’t like pipes very much, but I found it weird that this guy showed up at 8 pm on a Sunday night without any notice when my dad was cooking dinner.

I go into my compound and watch a movie in bed, and the next morning I wake up, I don’t see the man or anyone else around, I look back at the kitchen expecting to see some work being done but there’s nothing. In fact, everything is spotless, as if nothing had happened. I walk out into the hall and see my dad and his wife sitting in the living room on the couch, and I stop and I ask him “Daddy, what happened to the pipes guy?” And he looks at me with a completely frozen stare and says “There is no pipes guy, you must have been dreaming” and I’m like what? That was a very real dream, and I’m trying to rationalize it in my head but I don’t have time because I’m running late for class.

The next night I’m walking through the house again, this time to go to bed, I see the same armless man walking towards me down the hallway. I stop, I’m frozen again, I don’t know what to do, and he’s walking towards me and I’m trying to get out of his way but my body is frozen. I try to talk but all that comes out is a whimper, and I’m standing there like an idiot, and then he walks past me and It’s like a spell has been broken and I run into my compound and I text my sisters about what happened. We’re all freaking out about it, but my dad and his wife are trying to gaslight us and tell us that we’re crazy.

After that night I never saw the man again, but I never ever walk through the house alone after dark, because I can’t risk running into him again. And I finally understood the meaning of creepy. I don’t know who or what the man was, or what he wanted, but I’ve learned to never take my safety or sanity for granted.

So, armless man, let’s not meet again
