Did anyone else think that it was weird that we weren't "told" or "taught" about anything from the future?

I have thought about this for a few year now, it was during my research going back from the 50's through 2000's how nothing really earth shattering was predicted, I thought it would be strange that we only really found out about major things that were going to happen in the short future. We have been up and down, back and forth in regards to major technological advancements and space exploration. And I was only 18 when 9/11 happened sopretty much my whole life I have seen massive changes in these two aspects of our society. For all of the cold war era predictions about what was going to happen "pretty soon", not a lot of it ever happened. For instance....the Jetsons was from 1962, were told it was "the future", we are already 32 years past when that was suppose to happen and we are about half way there on a lot of that stuff.

With everything that we have been through since before WW2 up to now, we have seen the television, computer, phone and internet, cars....literally everything major invention come to life. Why are we still predicting when these major things are going to happen, why does it seem like we only really know about the future one or two decades out? When we get to that time frame we continue to make predictions for just a little bit more in the future and we have been doing this for awhile. I am almost 41 and have seen some incredible advancements in my time on this planet. But why does it seem like we have to wait until we are literally one or two decades out before we hear about anything that is going to happen in the future? For instance, we were told that we wouldn't land on the moon until 2150....we landed on it in 1969. Elon Musk, the guy who "invented" cashless currency through PayPal is trying to get humans to Mars, but we are told probably not for about 20-30 years. Why can't we continue to do what we have always done, if we can go from literally riding horses to landing on the moon in just over 60 years, why can't we just continue to advance like this? Why are we limited to small advancements in short periods of time? I thought that it was just me thinking about this weirdly, but I saw a post about this on here recently.
