Is accepting that the universe is meaningless a better place to be than actively trying to find meaning in it?

To me it seems that accepting that the universe is meaningless allows people to feel better in their own lives. You can find meaning in your own life and the meaning is whatever you choose it be and you can use that to guide your actions and decisions. If you accept that meaning in the universe cannot be found you aren't constantly searching for something that isn't there, and therefore you can live in the present.

I see this in lots of things people find the meaning of life to be, such as the meaning of life is to find personal happiness. I think that accepting that your life is yours to give meaning to is a better way to find happiness than actively trying to find a universal meaning.

Does anyone else feel this way, or am I just stupid?

EDIT: lots of good comments, thanks to everyone who's taken time to write something.

EDIT 2: I think the main part of my struggle is that I don't believe there is an answer to be found so I just live my life and enjoy it. I don't know if this is hedonism or not.
