A few weeks ago, I won $17 million in the lottery. I feel trapped and miserable already.

\-------------

I’m 13 years old. I live in a big city in China. My grandpa loves to play the lottery. He spends all of his money buying lottery tickets. He’s 71 now and he’s been doing this for as long as I can remember. One day he gave me 100 yuan for a lottery ticket. I didn’t want to buy one but my parents said that grandpa was too old and needed to spend our money before he died. They told me to buy a ticket just for fun, and that I was very lucky.

The next day I went to the convenience store across the street to buy a ticket. I told them that I would spend 100 yuan on the lottery, and they said that that was way too much and laughed. They gave me my ticket and I went home to check my numbers. I forgot what they were but they were very good. My mom texted all of my friends to see if they won, but none of them did. I was so excited to tell my grandpa that I won the lottery. When I told him he yelled at me and said that I was lying. I showed him my ticket and my phone to prove it, but he started crying. The next morning, he took me to the lottery office to claim my prize.

I had to give over half of my winnings to the government, but I still had over $17 million left. My grandpa and my parents were so excited and they said that we were set for life. The next day, my parents took the money and put it in the bank. After we did that, my uncle and his wife came to our house to ask for money. They wanted to buy a house so my parents gave them a little under $150,000. My parents told me that my grandpa was very sad because he had spent his entire life trying to win and he never did. They said that he deserved the money so they gave him a little less than $150,000. My mom said that my dad and her needed to buy a new car because we were set for life now. My dad bought a Mercedes and my mom bought an Audi. They said that they were “only” $100,000 cars, so they were cheap. My parents also bought a new house because they said it would be good for us and it would help our future.

I never spend my money and I never buy treats. I always save everything I get. I was so happy when I won the lottery and I thought that I had everything I had ever wanted. Seeing my parents waste my money is so frustrating. They keep buying things that they don’t need and they say that it’s okay because I’m set for life now. I miss my old car and my old house. I don’t like my life now because everything is so different. My parents actually had a conversation about whether or not we should buy a private island. They decided that we couldn’t because we already spent too much money. I’m starting to realize that I don’t have any rights and nobody cares about what I feel.

I want my old life back. I was happy when things were simple and I didn’t have to worry about my parents spending my money. It’s my money, but I don’t get to decide what happens to it. I can’t tell my parents that they are being lazy and that I don’t want to waste my money. I feel trapped because I’m only 13 years old and I can’t do anything about it. My parents never even let me go walking alone until I was 12 years old. I want to live a normal life but now I can’t do that. My parents don’t care about me anymore because they’re too busy spending my money.
