I was nearly raped and my mum didn't believe me. What should I do?

When I was 17, I was walking home from a party, I took the shortcut through the woods to get home quicker. It was getting dark and I had been walking for a while so I decided to take a break by sitting on a tree stump. I had sat there for maybe 20 minutes and heard some rustling in the bushes. I turned around and a man was standing 3 feet away from me. It was very dark and I couldn't see much of his face, but he had a long jacket on and a hat and scarf.<br><br>I froze, not knowing what to do. I tried to run away but my legs were paralysed. I couldn't move. The man slowly approached me and started walking towards me. He got closer and closer and closer. I was so scared, I had no phone to call for help and I thought it was my last day alive. When he got really close to me, I recognised him. It was my cousin, but I had never seen him with a hat, scarf, and long jacket before. <br><br>He grabbed me and held me, I tried to scream for help but it came out in a squeak. I tried again and he covered my mouth with his hand. I asked why he was scaring me and he told me he was just playing a joke on me. I told him not to play jokes like this and he apologised. He took his jacket off and we walked home together. I never told anyone what had happened, it was a little embarrassing and I didn't want my family to worry.<br><br>I never saw my cousin after that night and I have never heard from him again. I was never told why he had disappeared and I never saw him again. I found out that my aunt had found out what he had done that night and had thrown him out, because she couldn't believe what he had done.<br><br>My mum had found out about my cousin and my aunt and she never told me. She just said that he had moved away to a new country. I didn't find out about any of this until I was in my early 30s. <br><br>I've always thought that my mum didn't believe me when I told her about it. But maybe I'm wrong? Was it possible that she believed me and never told me what had happened? I don't know what to think anymore.
