What was she planning to do to me?

This happened a few years ago, but it's still creepy to think about today. It was a night just like any other in Toledo, Ohio. I had just left work and was heading back to my apartment to chill out for a little bit. I was walking down the street with my headphones in, listening to some music, when I heard a car pull up next to me.

I immediately looked up and saw a lady sitting in the passenger seat with a weird expression on her face. She was staring directly at me with a creepy smile on her face, but I couldn't really make out her features because of the glare on her side window.

The man driving, I assume her husband or boyfriend, looked at me with a stern expression. I could tell he was annoyed or irritated by something, but I couldn't quite place what it was.

"Hey you need a ride?" He growled.

I immediately pulled out my headphones and responded, "No thanks, I'm almost home."

I could tell something was off about them, but I couldn't really place it. I was tired from a long day at work, and my feet were killing me from standing all day.

The lady though, she still had that creepy smile on her face. I could tell something was off about her. It bugged me enough that I forgot about the guy's irritation.

"What do you do, sweetheart?" The lady asked in a creepy voice. "You look too pretty to be doing some dirt job."

I'm a bartender at a local pub, but I didn't tell her that though. Something about her was so off putting that I couldn't even tell her my job.

"I, uh, I work in healthcare."

She smiled again. "Oh. Well I'm a nurse too, so it was nice meeting you."

The man grumbled. "We shouldn't bother her."

The lady looked at him, annoyed, and responded. "It's okay. We shouldn't be rude."

Something about that interaction sent off major red flags to me. I don't know if it was the way the lady reacted to him, or how he reacted to her, but something was off.

I responded, trying not to sound annoyed. "Yeah, it was nice meeting you ladies and gentlemen, but I really need to get home. I'm tired, and my feet hurt."

I waved, and shot them a smile. They drove off almost immediately, but not before the lady stuck her head out the window and yelled out one more thing to me.

"Call us if you need a ride!"

I got home, took a two hour bath, and then went to bed. The next day though, I kept having this creepy feeling about the lady from the night before. I don't know why, but I couldn't get her off my mind.

It wasn't until a few days after that I really started to think about my encounter with her. It wasn't her creepy smile or weird interactions with her boyfriend that set off warning bells, it was the fact that when she approached me, I was wearing work clothes. I didn't know how she would have known that I work as a bartender, or even if I did tell her, why would she care? It seemed like a useless detail for her to bring up.

So let's not meet again lady. I hope the men in your life keep you safe and sound.
