Vanilla is a bad ice cream flavor

Yes, you can't make good ice cream flavors without vanilla, just like how you cannot paint without using black. But I think most people agree paint is pretty bad for actual painting. Sure it's good for some techniques, but how many people actually make only black paintings? Vanilla is more of an ingredient than it is a flavor to me
