The guy I met in a bar

One night after my first semester in law school, I went out with a couple of my classmates to a local bar. I was celebrating a decent first semester and the fact that I hadn’t been dropped by any of my classes. We had a couple of drinks, laughed about the absurdity of law school and just enjoyed each other’s company. At one point, I excused myself and went to the bathroom to take a leak and splash some water on my face. After that I walked back out to the bar to find a guy standing in front of me with his arms crossed across his chest and a sinister look on his face. I assumed he worked there because he looked like he was waiting to pounce on the first drunk guy he saw. He asked me if I wanted to go get a drink with him, and I politely declined. I told him that I was with some friends and that I had a lot of work to do and didn’t want to drink anymore than I already had.

He then proceeded to ask me a bunch of questions about where I lived, where I worked, what my job was and where I went to school. I answered him politely but I kept repeating that I wasn’t interested in going anywhere with him. He kept pushing and asking me if I was sure I didn’t want to go somewhere. I was getting annoyed so I told him that if he didn’t leave me alone I would call the police.

At that point he just shook his head and said “you don’t want to do that” and proceeded to walk away. I watched him walk over to a woman at the bar, put his arm around her neck and pull her towards him. I watched in horror as he grabbed her arms, spun her around, and kissed her. I watched as she kissed him back and wrapped her arms around his neck. I was so horrified that I didn’t know what to do. I stood there frozen in shock while he kissed her for what felt like forever. Eventually I snapped out of it and I realized that I should probably go get my friends and leave.

I found my friends and told them what had happened and we all decided to go home. As I was walking out the door, I heard him calling my name. I didn’t look back and I didn’t answer. I was already halfway to my car by the time he was out of the bar. We drove away without looking back in the rear view mirror and didn’t speak a word to each other for the rest of the night. It was as if what happened had never happened. But it happened, and I knew that I had just dodged a bullet. I never saw him again and that incident has stuck with me to this day.

*Edit*: Thank you all for the kind words and support. I’m sorry that so many of you have had to go through things like this. I hope you are all safe now and that you never have to go through anything like this again.

*Edit 2*: Thank you for the gold and silver. This is my first time on a subchambers that I actually have anything to say about something and it’s absolutely blown up. I really appreciate the support.
