college admissions inequality: why does it matter that the amount of college-accepting white students is going down?

Ok so i've been seeing a lot of media coverage about "discrimination against white and asian students" in terms of college admissions lately. the typical story of discrimination is that both white and asian students have a much lower chance of being accepted into college than black and hispanic students of the same qualifications.

the news story that was linked in /r/econfuture about MIT accepting a black student who was homeschooled and didn't have any AP classes was a good example of this. same qualifications, white and asian kids are way less represented in colleges than they should be. it feels like affirmative action for black and hispanic students, if you don't want to say "discrimination" directly.

so here's my question: if the amount of college-accepting white and asian students is decreasing, why should we care?

the media seems to be portraying this as a bad thing, and it seems like the media wants us to feel bad for white and asian students and be angry.

what's wrong with colleges accepting more black and hispanic students? isn't that supposed to be a good thing?

somebody explain this to me, i'm getting really confused.

EDIT: I didn't say that white and asian students are a minority, I said that black and hispanic students are.

EDIT 2: I didn't say that white and asian students should be represented less. I said that I don't see anything wrong with colleges accepting more black and hispanic students.

EDIT 3: I did not say that white and asian students should be represented less. I did not say that white and asian students should be discriminated against. I said that I did not see a problem with colleges accepting more black and hispanic students.

EDIT 4: I did not say that white and asian students should be represented less.
