Why I won't be preaching anything to my sons about feminism and equality

I have two sons, I'm sure most of you know this about me already. They are both very different, I'm sure most of you know this as well.

One is 3 and a half, the other is 14 months. I have already begun to notice racial and sexist stereotypes in kids television shows, cartons, movies, books, basically everything across the board. And honestly I'm not even the type to complain about stuff like this, I just don't really think it makes a difference.

So I started to wonder how I'm gonna handle it. How am I gonna make sure that my kids know how everyone is supposed to be treated equally? How am I gonna teach my boys to be good allies, and treat the women in their lives with respect and dignity.

I peeled back the layers of our societal onion, and everything that makes up this patriarchal hierarchical system designed to keep women and minorities down.

I realized that you don't need to teach kids not to be sexist, or racist, they are literally taught racial and sexist stereotypes at a very young age. The messages we get from society, media, and our environment around us literally shapes us into who we are.

Society is fucked, so they will be too.
