The Man Who Walked Through My Bedroom Window

One night, not too long ago, I (26f) was sleeping at my mom and dads house. I usually don't stay with them but I was out at a party and had a pretty bad time. I decided to head home around 2 am, but the car I had been riding in wouldn't start. Luckily, I was close to my moms house, so I called her and let her know that I was stranded.

My parents were already in bed when I arrived, and I didn't think too much of it when I didn't see their car anywhere. I went into the kitchen to make some tea, and noticed their cars were parked out front. I did find it odd, but just chalked it up to them being paranoid and wanted to make sure the house was secure. I made my tea, went into the living room and sat on the couch. The lights were off in the rest of the house, so it was pitch black.

I sat there in silence for a good hour, or maybe even two. I was half asleep, but the thought of my parents not being in their bedroom was gnawing at me. I decided to go check on them, just to make sure everything was fine. I crept out of the living room, into the dark and silent hallway. I made my way to their bedroom door and quietly turned the handle, but it was already open. I peeked my head in, but they were still fast asleep.

I was confused. I had the idea that they might have been gone, so I just assumed they fell asleep really fast. I still thought it was odd, but I didn't really care enough to call them and ask why they were still in bed so late. I went back out to the living room, sat back down and turned the TV on.

At one point, I heard a really loud noise coming from upstairs. At first I thought it could have just been something falling, or maybe the cat knocked something down. But it sounded really loud, and my heart started racing a bit. I decided to go check it out, so I got up and walked into the hallway. I looked around for the flashlight but couldn't find it, so I went back downstairs to get it from the kitchen.

As I entered the kitchen, I saw that there was a crack in the window above the sink. I immediately noticed that it hadn't been there before. The thought ran through my head that someone had broken into the house, and they were now in my parents bedroom.

My instincts told me to run upstairs, check my parents room, and then call the cops. So that's exactly what I did. I ran upstairs and peeked my head through my parents door, but there was no one there. I felt a wave of relief wash over me, and I started to think that it was all in my head. Maybe it was just the cat who had jumped up on the windowsill, and the wind had cracked it.

I called the cops, and waited outside on the front porch for them to arrive. While I waited, I went back to check on my parents. Still asleep, still alone. I waited for around 30 minutes, before the cops finally arrived. I told them about the noise upstairs, and the window in the kitchen. We all went inside and started checking the place out.

We searched every single room, and found nothing out of place. The house was empty. There were no signs of forced entry or a break in, aside from the cracked window in the kitchen. It was just... nothing. The cops left and I went back inside. I thought that maybe I had just gotten a bad vibe, so I went back to bed.

The next morning, my parents came out for coffee and we started talking. I asked my mom why she and dad was still in bed so late, and she said they fell asleep reading a book together. I asked if they heard the noises I heard, and she said she didn't hear anything. Neither did my dad. I then asked them about the cracked window, and if they knew anything about it. I told them that the cops came over, and we searched the house but found nothing.

My mom, who is a really sweet and genuine person, looked at me really strangely and said, "What do you mean nothing? We searched the whole house, didn't we?"

I told her that we did, but that she and dad weren't in their room when I checked, and the house was empty when the cops arrived. She looked at me, and told me that she and dad was in their bedroom the whole time.

Now, I know they are telling the truth. I've known my parents my whole life. They wouldn't lie to me like that. So if they weren't in their bedroom, and they didn't hear the noise, then who did? And why did the cops find no one in the house? I'm so confused and frustrated, but I'm also glad that nothing happened. No one was hurt, no property was stolen. Maybe it was just my mind playing tricks on me, but I still can't help but to feel like something weird happened that night.
