I (F23) live in a decently big city in the US and I work as a server in a good restaurant. One evening, I was finishing up my shift at about 11 and the bus that goes to my area wasn't coming for another 20 minutes. So, I did the best thing and walked home. It was a route I knew well. I was walking at a pretty good pace and stopped to wait out a rainstorm.

After the storm had passed, I kept going and I turned a corner. The street was completely empty and I couldn't see very far because it was very dark. Behind me, a car turned the corner. It was a beat up sedan and it was going very slowly down the street. I could see a man driving and there was someone in the passenger seat. It was unusual, but I didn't think too much of it and continued walking.

The car came to a complete stop next to me. The driver looked at me and then turned and looked at his passenger. The passenger was nodding at the driver. Then he looked at me. I couldn't make out any features of his face because it was too dark, but I could tell that he was smiling at me. The driver turned and pointed a gun at me. I froze in shock and fear. I couldn't move or even blink. The driver told me to come over and to open the passenger door. I couldn't even move my legs. The driver then got out of the car. He came up to me and nudged me forward. He was pushing me towards the car. I still couldn't move or do anything. The driver hit me in the back of the head and everything went black.

I woke up in a room. I don't know how long I had been there, but it was daylight. The first thing I noticed was the smell. It was a mixture of mold and garbage. I was sitting on a dirty mattress. I was tied up at the wrists and ankles. I don't know how long I sat there or what I was thinking about. I felt like I was in a daze. At some point I heard the door open. It was the driver again, holding a cup of water. He set the cup next to me and then he walked over to me. I could see that he had no teeth. He then asked if I needed to go to the bathroom. I said yes. He said "that's good" and then he untied my wrists and ankles and he led me to the bathroom. It was disgusting. I had to step over piles of dirty clothes and trash. I did my business and then I was back on the mattress. I don't know how long it had been but I was starting to lose it. I had to go so bad again. The driver came back and asked if I needed to go again. I said yes. This time he just untied my ankles and I went to the bathroom on my own. This happened multiple times. He never said anything else to me.

I lost track of how long I was there. But eventually, I needed to go so bad that I couldn't sit on the mattress anymore. Again, the driver came in and asked and I said yes. I couldn't wait anymore and I went as I sat on the dirty floor. I felt like I was in a completely different world. I was starting to lose it mentally and I had to go so bad that I was starting to cry. I was crying out in pain. The driver came in again and he asked if I needed to go. I said yes again and he just said "good". I don't even know what he meant by that. He untied my ankles again and I went to the bathroom. This happened for what felt like hours. Everytime I had to go, he came in, asked, I said yes and he just untied my ankles. I was crying out in pain and I remember that I was starting to lose it. I just wanted to go so bad.

Eventually, I don't know how long it had been, the driver came in and asked if I needed to go again. I said no. I just couldn't wait anymore. He then untied my ankles and walked out of the door. I remember that I was crying still. I was so relieved. I thought that maybe he would let me go. Maybe this was finally over. I waited for what felt like forever. I heard footsteps. They were coming from outside the door. I was hoping it was the driver coming back to untie my ankles again. But it wasn't. It was two police officers. They came in and arrested the driver. They said that they had been following him and they knew he was holding me somewhere. They told me to stay still and they came over and cut the rope that was holding my ankles. I remember that I started crying again. I was so relieved. One of the officers came over to me and he asked if I could walk. I said yes. I was a little dizzy but I could walk. They walked me out of the room and then out of the house. Once we were outside, I collapsed into one of the officers. I was so relieved. I don't even know what I would have done if they hadn't come when they did.

The driver was arrested on the spot and he was booked for kidnapping and assault with intent to rape. The house he was holding me in belonged to a man who was already in jail. The driver was his nephew and he was doing time for kidnapping and assault with intent to rape. Turns out, the driver had gotten out of jail and he had the nephew let him live in his house. The nephew didn't know anything about it though. The driver had been car jacking and holding people at gun point and he was bringing them to the house. The police didn't know any of this until they saw me. They searched the house and they found pictures of other people they had never seen before. They were all in the same situation that I was. They found clothes and personal items of other people too. The police were able to match some of the pictures to missing persons cases. There were a lot of cases that they were able to solve. The police were even able to find a body.

I was so relieved. I was still in shock for a while, but it eventually wore off. I remember that it hit me like a ton of bricks when I realised what would have happened to me if the police hadn't come when they did. I could have been there for days. Or longer. The driver had told me that no one knew where I was and that I wouldn't be found. He also told me that the nephew didn't know anything and that no one checked on him. It was a really creepy feeling. It still is.

The police took me to hospital to check me over. Luckily, nothing happened to me while I was there. I just had a bump on the back of my head from when the driver hit me. The police then took me home. My mom and dad were there and they were so relieved to see me. They were so scared when they couldn't find me. They had called the police when I didn't come home and they told them about the bus driver. Luckily, the police were able to find me before anything else happened.

It's been a few years since it happened. I still get really anxious when it's dark outside and I have to walk anywhere. Or when I'm walking down empty streets. It still gives me flashbacks. But I'm doing much better now. I don't think about it all the time anymore. I'm glad that I was able to help the police solve some missing persons cases. It's a good thing to come out of something like that. I'm just glad that I'm okay. And I'm glad that I got out of there before anything else happened.
