I'm not sure what drugs you all are doing, but I'm sure you're doing it wrong.

I've tried to ignore the 'I'm an addict.' And 'I'm an alcoholic' threads, but it seems like more and more pop up each day. When your drug use stops becoming fun, maybe it's time to re-evaluate your choices. It seems that the vast majority of people on this website are those who are trying to quit or have quit using drugs. These 'I'm an addict' threads have little to do with drug use (other than the nasty side effects of the drugs) and have more to do with the actual nature of addiction. I don't have any statistics to back up this claim, but I'm sure that the majority of users are not addicts.

Drugs can be addictive, but that's the case with almost everything. Compare drug addiction to coffee addiction for example. I'm sure most of you have seen jokes like 'I'm not a morning person until I've had my coffee.' I've never met an alcoholic, but I'm sure that the experience is similar. Waking up hungover, trying to drive to the liquor store, and all of the nasty side effects that come along with booze are all reasons why I will never truly understand the nature of alcohol addiction. Anyways, I think there's a line between drug use and addiction. Obviously too much of a drug will cause harm, that's why it's called a 'drug'. The recreational drug users and the addicts are often lumped together, and I think that's part of the reason why drug use is so frowned upon.

I truly believe that many of the people who are 'addicts' would not have this problem if they knew how to use drugs properly. This may sound crazy, but I'm sure it's true. I think that the first time you do a drug, it should not be with the intention of getting high. The first time you do a drug, it should be to familiarize yourself with it. You should learn how to identify the drug, the appropriate dosage, side effects, how long the drug lasts, and how long until you can safely redose (if it's the type of drug that can be used more than once in a day.) For those of you who are 'addicts,' I'm sure you'll remember that the first time you used a drug, it was fun. You were with friends, you were having a good time, and all of a sudden the world seemed like a magical place. For those of you who are 'addicts,' it seems like eventually the drug stopped becoming fun. At this point in your life, you should have re-evaluated your drug of choice and stopped using it. The point of doing drugs it to have fun, if you're not having fun, then why are you still doing the drug?

I'm not saying that you all are idiots and you made a poor decision, I'm saying that you probably just didn't know how to use the drug properly. But I'm sure you know that now. Don't get me wrong, there are some shady people in the world of black market drugs. People will lie about the potency of a drug, lie about the price, or lie about the drug altogether. I'm sure some of you bought into 'Mandarin Triangle' and thought it was the next amazing synthetic cannabinoid. I'm sure some of you bought 'Cotton Bowl', thinking it was two synthetic substances for the price of one. But I'm sure you learned these lessons the hard way. I'm sure that you all know that black market drugs are not always the best quality, and that you have to be careful in order to not get ripped off. But the vast majority of you probably know how to use drugs properly now.

It seems like a lot of the 'I'm an addict.' threads are just to get sympathy or pity from internet strangers. This is something that you've dealt with your whole life, and if you need help from strangers, you're probably beyond help. I don't want to sound insensitive, but a lot of you seem to have your lives together. I'm sure you all have friends and family, and I'm sure you all have your own methods of dealing with your addiction. If you all want to share your stories of drug use, that's fine. But it seems like whenever a thread about drug use pops up, there are a ton of 'I used to be an addict' comments. I believe these are the actions of people who are desperate for attention. If you all feel like sharing your stories of addiction, then more power to you. But I'm sure your story is not relevant to the conversation at hand.

I'm not an addict, and I've had nothing but great experiences with drugs. Drugs will not ruin your life if you use them properly. You're probably an idiot if you think that you can do drugs without any side effects, but the fun that you experience from drugs should always far outweigh the negative side effects. I'm not trying to sound like too much of an ass, but if you all have not figured out how to use drugs properly, there's not much that I can do to help you.
