I started around age 12 as the son of a grocery store owner. I took for the sake of taking, and got into taking more and more over the years. I'd generally take cigarettes and snacks for myself and my friends, and got more brazen over time taking full boxes of cigarettes and whatever else I thought I could get away with.

I kept this up throughout college and on into my professional career. Eventually, I was caught by an ex marine who was a security guard. I was charged with a felony, and this was when I was 61 years old. This is a regrettable decision that I made over and over again for decades, and I got away with it every time until I didn't.

If you're in your early 20s, please don't get into shoplifting. I saw this sub and am sharing my story to hopefully prevent someone else making the same mistake I did. Even tho the penalty is suspended and I won't do jail time, it has still been a massive headache and embarrassment. Please don't do it!
