Parents with super strict rules, what is the reason behind them?

To be clear, I'm not judging anyone else's parenting style and all families are different and some rules are indispensable. My question is about these rules that seem really strict and even pointless to me because I like to understand why people do what they do. Here are some examples:

* No leaving the house after dark. I grew up in a neighborhood that was pretty safe and it was okay to leave after dark but with a curfour and to not go too far from home. I know someone who is 15 and her parents won't let her go to the drug store that is close to her house after 10pm.

* Not being allowed to go to certain places. I know someone who is 19 and has never been to a mall and is only allowed in small local shops because their parents say that malls are too "crowded". I also know someone who isn't allowed to go bowling, to the cinema or to arcades because of "weird people"

* Being forced to be homeschooled when the kid wants to go to school. I know someone who is 12 and is homeschooled. She has never gone to school before and she told me that she asked her dad if she could go to school with me but he said no because of "bullies" and "weird people". I don't know if it's because he believes that schools don't protect their kids enough from bullies but he watches a lot of videos about how dangerous schools are. The girl is not allowed to have any friends and is only allowed to talk to people at church

* No friends. This one is more or less the same as the previous one but I also know some parents who won't let their kids have ANY friends. I know someone who is 17 and only has one friend who is her neighbor and that's the only friend she is allowed to have. She's not allowed to hang out with anyone and is only allowed to hang out with her one friend twice a year and only at home.

Please note that I'm not judging anyone's parenting and I know that some rules are necessary. What I'm interested in is the reasons behind these rules. I would also appreciate it if you tell me if you know someone who does this and their reasons.
