What will be a credible theory of will, self and consciousness?

The title says it all. Please note that I am not asking how the mindbody problem has not yet been resolved, but rather what is your take on it, or what would, in your opinion, be a fully credible theory of mindbody. I am not a philosopher in the strict sense of the word, but I am not a layman either. Some knowledge of the history of philosophy is a plus, but not mandatory.
