The guy with the uniform.

I'm posting this in the dark hope that maybe someone out there has experienced the same thing. This happened a few years ago to me, and I don't know if it was the alcohol or my age, but it has stuck with me ever since. I've always been a fairly adventurous person, and I grew up in a big city so I've never been afraid of much, especially at night. I used to work a couple blocks from the train station, so it wasn't uncommon to see shady looking people walking around the streets late at night. But one night in particular, I was walking home from work and the streets were unusually deserted. I passed by a guy in a uniform, he looked like a security guard. He was standing at attention at the corner of the building, but his back was turned to me as I passed by. I continued walking until I turned the corner and reached the stairs to my apartment building. I live in a pretty nice area, so I know the tenants by face, at least. I don't really know everyone, but I'm always friendly and say hello when I pass by them. I reached the top of the stairs and unlocked my door, but something about the guy in the uniform didn't sit right with me. I felt like I was being watched, and I could feel his eyes on my back. I rushed into my apartment and locked the door behind me. I stood there for a few seconds, waiting for the sound of the lock to engage before I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. They stopped right outside my door, and the knocking started. "Hello? Can I speak to you for a minute?" It wasn't the nicest voice, it was deep and raspy. I didn't answer, I just stood there, frozen in place. "I'm with security. I've been watching you walk home from work. I know where you live. You need to be more careful. It's not safe for a lady like you to be walking alone at night. If you keep walking home from work like that, something bad is going to happen to you. I've seen some terrible things happen to young women like you. You don't want that to happen to you, do you?" I still didn't answer, I was paralyzed with fear. The knocking continued for a few minutes, with the same speech repeating itself. I finally found the ability to move and called the police. The guy at the other end of the line told me to stay calm and that he had dispatched two officers to my location. I looked out the window and saw two police cruisers pull up across the street. The officers came up the stairs and asked if anyone had been bothering me. I told them the story, and they told me they'd send someone to walk me home from work the next day. The next day came and went, and neither officer showed up. The same thing happened the next day, and the day after that. The guy in the uniform never bothered me again, but every time I went home from work, I felt like someone was watching me. I didn't tell anyone about it, I just kept it to myself. I'm hoping that maybe someone has experienced the same thing, and can offer some advice.
