Implying that a person is “a good driver?” simply because they are a senior citizen is very annoying.

Whenever an older person (70+yo) does something right on the road like yielding or signaling its not uncommon for someone to say, “oh he’s a good driver.” Why does anyone think age has anything to do with ones ability to operate a vehicle?

I don’t like how we use age as a barometer for driving. This makes no sense because I have encountered plenty of shit elderly drivers throughout my driving history.

I’ve literally heard people say things like, “look at grandpa yielding?” or “granny is polite she let me in!” Like wtf is that even supposed to mean? Why is it so surprising that an elderly person knows how to operate a vehicle? Even if they did not know how to drive I would imagine it’s not that hard to figure out.

If anything, the elderly have been driving longer than most of us so they should know how to operate a vehicle properly. Why does everyone act like we should be impressed when a senior knows the basics of driving? Like, every person on the road should know how to drive even if they are 100 years old.

People who have never driven before in their life and recently got their license have an excuse to suck at driving. An elderly person does not.
