The creep who told me I "looked too young" to be in a bar.

When I was 17 I went to the bar with my then 21 year old boyfriend. I had never been to a bar with him before, and he had been very open with me about his party habits, but he had also just gotten a job and had promised me he would stop partying so much. I trusted him and thought he was telling the truth. I had no idea what to expect that night.

We were at the bar, sitting at a table with other people, and my boyfriend was drinking beer. He had a fake ID and I thought that was strange, but I trusted him and didn't think anything of it. At one point a man came over to our table, looked at me, looked at my age, and looked at my boyfriend. My boyfriend, realizing what was going on, leaned over and whispered "she's 18, and this is her first time in a bar." I was offended at this, because I wasn't actually 18 and I wasn't his sister, but I didn't want to make a scene, so I just smiled at the man. He looked disappointed, then he leaned over and whispered to my boyfriend, "look dude, I just want to say, you're way too old for her. She looks way too young to be in a bar. I'm worried you're gonna get in trouble."

My boyfriend looked at the man and smiled, and said "I have a feeling it won't come up." I didn't like the way the man was looking at me or my boyfriend, and I didn't like the way my boyfriend was acting. He had always been respectful, kind, and attentive. But I didn't want to cause a scene, so I just smiled at the man again and said "thank you."

The man looked disappointed, and he walked away. My boyfriend looked at me and said, "don't worry about that dude, he just looks out for people." But I didn't like the look in his eye, it was like he was telling me to smile and be happy. I was so uncomfortable, and I didn't like the vibe at the bar anymore. I said I was tired and wanted to go home. He said he'd walk me out, but instead of going to the door he walked me to the car and told me to wait in the car. He said he'd bring my stuff down. I didn't like the way he was acting, so I went back into the bar to get my stuff. That's when I saw him talking to the creep who had come over to our table. They were both looking at me. I didn't like it, so I got my stuff and went outside.

I got into the car and started the engine and put it in gear. My boyfriend ran out of the bar and grabbed the door and slapped it shut. He tried to open the door, but I had already locked it. I rolled down the window and said "what?" He said, "you're not going anywhere!" I said, "yes I am! I want to go home!" He said, "you're not going anywhere with that car! I'm gonna call a taxi and I'm gonna go home!" I said, "okay, fine. I'll leave then!" I put the car in drive and started driving away. He started running after the car. I didn't know what to do, so I just drove as fast as I could. I was scared. I drove home and called my dad. I told him what had happened, and he came to get me.

We went back to the bar, and my dad asked the bouncer if he knew where my boyfriend was. The bouncer said he didn't allow minors in his bar, and if he found out my boyfriend was actually 17, he was going to call the police. My dad said he was going to call the police anyway, and he had proof my boyfriend was actually 17. The bouncer looked at me and said "I warned you."

When the police came they arrested my boyfriend and took him down to the station. He was 17, not 21. He had forged IDs and was working at the bar, selling drugs and alcohol to minors. When they searched his room they found out how old he really was, and they found out he had been lying to everyone. He had actually been 17, not 18. He was charged with selling drugs and alcohol to a minor and he got sentenced to a lot of time in jail. He was 18 by the time he got out. I never saw or heard from him again.

To this day I still get chills when I think about that night. The way that man looked at me, the way my boyfriend acted, and the way he tried to take my car from me. I was just 17, and I was so stupid and naive. I didn't know what was going on, but I knew something was wrong. I'm just glad my dad believed me, and I'm glad I got out of there before anything bad happened. Looking back, it could have been a lot worse for me, but it could have also been a lot better. I'm glad it turned out the way it did.
