How much geography do you need to make before you start populating and creating history for your world

I've been creating a fictional world just for fun and I've drawn my first map for the continent where the story takes place and I'm not really sure where to go from here. I know I've only just begun but starting to create the world's geography first is beginning to feel a little arbitrary. Is there a cut off point for when you're done and geography wise and when you should start creating the people and history for your world?

Stuff I've done so far:

- drawn a world map

- decided on a very simple climate system

- drawn a continent map

- created a basic sea/ocean and landmass

- defined the continents major features (rivers, mountains, forests etc)

- defined the continents major regions and defined broadly what the climate is in each region.

Stuff I'm doing next:

- Draw a country map and define the countries regions and climate

I've done this all before I've started on the inhabitants of the world and I'm starting to feel like I'm going to burn out before I ever actually start creating lore and and story for my world, this is my first attempt at creating a world for story telling purposes and I'm not really sure how to proceed at this point. How do you start creating the history and lore for your world?

TLDR: I feel like I'm wasting my time doing too much geography before I start creating the actual world
