One night, I woke up and heard someone walking in my house. This was back in college when I lived alone in an apartment with my best friends. It was 2am and I immediately woke up and looked around. I saw the man walking in my living room, and I froze up. He was wearing a hoodie and a ski mask. He went straight to the bathroom and closed the door. I knew he saw me. I was frozen up in fear, and my mind went blank. The bathroom was right next to my bedroom.

After 15 minutes, I decided to make a run for it and grab my phone. I crawled out of bed, put on my slippers and tiptoed to the front door. I looked back at the bathroom door and it was still closed. I opened the door, grabbed my phone and ran outside to call 911. I ran downstairs, out the door, and to my car. I was on the phone with 911 and telling them what was happening. When I looked back, I saw the man running out the door, down the stairs and away from my apartment complex. He ran fast and the 911 operator said that police were on the way.

When the police showed up, they looked at my phone's GPS and found the man on the other side of the city. They caught him, and he confessed to breaking into my apartment. I told them that he was wearing a hoodie and ski mask. The police then told me that they found a ski mask on the ground near where they caught him. They said they found a hoodie in a dumpster.

I've never met this man before, and I don't know where he came from. I think he must have seen me walking into my apartment that night. He could have attacked me if I didn't freeze up. I still don't know why he broke in and didn't take anything. I still live alone, but I don't think about that night very often. But every once in awhile, it pops into my head, and I feel a chill down my spine.
