I get that sometimes a relationship can be failing, or the other person is lacking, or even that it was a one time mistake, but at the end of the day, if you cheat, you are the one who cheated. you chose to cheat, you decided to cheat, and most importantly, you DID cheat.

It's not "well he never did this and never did that, so I gave up and cheated" because giving up and cheating in a relationship is just that. it is not the others fault.

A eminently better job to say "well he never did this and never did that, and I found myself not that happy in this relationship and not that much in love and the love has died, so I cheated and am going to break up and leave and I am sorry for my poor choices"

Yeah sometimes cheating is just a dumb mistake and doesn't mean you're a bad person, but just own up to your shit choices. Sometimes your partner just sucks too and cheats, but it still is not a 50/50. You 100% did what you did and it was not the choice of your partner

EDIT:
Cheating is 100% the fault of the person who cheated AND cheating is 100% the fault of the person who cheated.

You can be the scum of the earth partner and it will not be your fault that your partner cheated. It will 100% be their fault.

You cheat, its your fault. You choose to cheat, thats not on the other person.

Its eminently likely the relationship was failing beforehand, and its eminently likely that both partners are at fault, but if one cheats, they are 100% at fault for that, no matter how much the other partner sucks.

Thats it. Thats all

EDIT2:
Its not 50/50 blame, 100% blame on the cheater because they cheated, and 0-100% blame on the other person because they were a bad partner, but that blame does not change the fact that the cheater cheated AND that is always 100% the cheaters fault
