We kill animals for meat, skin, milk and to protect ourselves. But leather is different?

I am from India and India is a Hindu majority country. Leather is hated here, it's almost like people are afraid of it. I was never given a leather bag or a leather wallet. We wear leather shoes, but we all hate them. I don't know why people think leather is gross. I was a vegetarian for 5 years, and I was not a vegan. I didn't have a problem with leather. I had a problem with eating meat.

Edit: There are a lot of commenters who say that I kill cows for meat and not leather. I don't eat cows and I am not a Christian. I can still be a Hindu and eat goats and sheep. Also, a lot of the people here seem to not know the definition of leather. It's not just cow skin but it's the skin of a lot of animals like snakes, goats, sheep, crocodiles etc

Edit2: I recently threw a leather hand bag and a wallet. Both were not used for a long time and it felt bad but had to do it to make this point. Also, the hand bag was a little bit damaged. I had kept it in the attic for 3 years and I forgot that I had given my sister some clothes to keep in the attic. When I got it down 2 days ago, the handbag was full of insects and cockroaches and had different types of bugs in it. I couldn't threw it before because it had my sister's clothes in it and some of it were new. I washed all of it and threw it in the dustbin. My sister is mad at me because she wanted to use it.
