If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out. This is not for shitty servers, this is for servers doing their job or doing more than they have to.

About a week ago I had to miss my Monday lunch date with my best friend (we always go out to eat on Mondays together since we're both off) because of an amazing opportunity to help out a friend who is in school. The restaurant she was at was short staffed so I went in and helped her out a bit.
A couple came in and were seated in her section and she was slammed. I helped take their order on her tablet (if you've been in the industry you know what I mean) and she was trying to put everything together for them. I noticed they were staring at us so I went over and asked if everything was okay. They asked me what my role was because they didn't want both people serving them. I told them I was also a server and just helping her out. I then joked that we're both your server so tip us double. The couple goes and eats their food and gets their bill, they leave a $0 tip. I helped take their order, served them their drinks and food, checked up on them, and also helped give them their bill and brought them their card back when they paid. Okay no big deal.
The real problem is when we close down a few hours later and my friend is in tears. The management came up to her and said the couple called corporate and are asking for her snitched because "they were being served by two people and didn't have one server which was very confusing". Mind you this couple had no problem asking me about a million and one questions with no hesitation. So my friend is in tears and lost her job. I feel responsible because I work at this restaurant so even though I missed lunch, they know me there. My point is this couple could have just left a tip (hell we would've just split it) and let my friend keep her job but no, they call and snitch both of us out. This couple probably has never worked in the service industry and has no clue how a restaurant operates. Thank you for listening to me rant, I just needed to let it out somewhere. This is a little off topic but if you don't want to tip 100% for your server, don't eat out. Period. This is not for lazy servers, this is for people who are doing triple the work they have to.

Edit: This is not my friend's real job. She's a college student and the restaurant job was just a side gig. This is not how she pays her bills so it just sucks that people can take a job away from someone just cause of a snitchy phone call.
