LPT: If you cook for someone and they give you an ultimatum over food (vegan/gluten free etc) then serve them the food you were originally going to serve, not the food they request.

People who do this usually don't care about their dietary issues and just want to make you jump through hoops.

I was staying with relatives for a week and my cousin said they would be happy to cook but that they were vegan. I said that's no problem at all, it'll be fun. They then tried to change their tune and was shocked and upset that I wasn't serving them chicken with their vegetables.

If you give someone an ultimatum over requests, honour the original commitment. If you can't, then get off your high horse.

EDIT: I just want to point out that veganism is a choice and in the case of my cousin (and presumably most of you in this sub) it HAS to be a choice. There is no such thing as someone who is allergic to animal products. Telling someone that you are 'allergic' to a certain thing as a means of getting people to do what you want is just obnoxious. No one cares that you are making that choice, just own it.

Also I felt like I needed to clear some things up since apparently I'm the poster boy for meatheads now. I'm not against plant based diets and I have no problem with people who are actually allergic to gluten or milk.

Nor do I care if people are vegan.

What I do take exception to is the holier-than-thou 'me or nothing' attitude that a lot of people on this thread are displaying. You can't force people to honour your 'choices' all the time, and quite frankly, you don't have a right to make other people accommodate for you. That is all.

EDIT NO. 2: Wow, this blew up. I appreciate the support from some of you over there on the left sidebar.

Again, thanks :)
