Trans women are not "male women"

I know this is a bit of an obvious thing for people familiar with the transgender community to point out, but I have noticed that a lot of people in this sub don't seem to understand the basic social and philosophical position of transgender people.

This is because trans women, trans men and non-binary people are all lumped together into one catch all category of "trans," or worse, "traps" or "gypsies" or some other derogatory term.

What this does is it reinforces the stereotype that trans people are just "men" or "women" or "gay men" who are pretending to be something they are not. This is not true, and it is not the position that transgender people hold about themselves, or even about each other.

To use a more accurate analogy, it would be as if we lumped together white people, black people and Hispanic people together into one single group called "people with pale skin." Just as it makes no sense to call a black person white, it makes no sense to call a trans woman a "male woman." It is nonsensical. Trans women are not "women" in the same way that you are a woman. Trans women are simply women. The difference is just not as visible as it is between cisgender people.

We must also recognize that trans women are not just gay men who are "tucking." There are a variety of reasons why people become transgender, including genetics, socialization, trauma, and more. Trans people, like any other group, are incredibly diverse, and to lump all of us together is to erase our identities and our experiences.

Trans women are not "women" in the same way that you are a woman.
