Is it ethically wrong to get a dog?

Firstly, i do love dogs and have grown up around them. I currently have a dog and have had him since he was a puppy (he is 2 now). My question is, is it ethically wrong to get yourself a dog? When you get a dog, you are literally buying an animal for yourself, to serve yourself, to pleasure yourself, to be your companion, to entertain you such as a child playing a game. A dog is completely under your control, and you get them without their consent. They are dependent on your every need for their entire lives, they rely on you to keep them safe, nourished and happy. They serve you by fulfilling your emotional needs, and you use them to serve yourself. Now i know that a dog might not comprehend any of this and you can obviously give them anything they could ever want in life. However, isn’t this the same as buying a slave? A dog gets whatever they want but the price is their freedom and ultimately their lives. You decide when and where they die. I know this seems like a controversial take but i am genuinely curious and want to hear other people’s thoughts.
