I still cannot understand the meaning of Lithuanian independence. What can you say about that?

I'm Russian. Most of our country doesn't even know what Lithuania is, so this is an attempt to understand why you are still trying to stand still. Once I got to know a Lithuanian who told me a lot about it. Is it really so interesting for you to be independent? Maybe I don't understand something.
