I used to work at a grocery store.

When I worked there from 2014 to 2017, there was a “code brown” system. If a door was triggered without a beep, we were to say “code brown” and every employee had to go check to make sure the person paid or the sensors weren’t working right. They used to always catch people with this system. I remember once this girl got caught with about $30 worth of groceries. The police came and she seemed very stressed.

Apparently, if you steal over $25 worth of merchandise, they will put you on a “banned list” and send you a letter in the mail. I don’t know how true this is. Also, if you’re on that list, and you ever get caught stealing again, they will give you community service or something worse.

I don’t steal from grocery stores anymore because I’m so paranoid about the whole system. I also don’t want to be banned from the only grocery store in my town.

If you work in retail and you get caught, do you also get a letter in the mail and get put on a banned list?
