The idea of men caring for children is a tool for patriarchal control and women’s oppression

In recent years, the idea that men should be able to take care of young children and that men staying at home with kids is the new norm has been peddled in various ways. While the idea may seem appealing and beneficial for men in certain circumstances, it ultimately serves the patriarchal system that upholds and perpetuates the oppression of women. Women are not just expected to care for children; they have always been the default caregivers, and they are socially, culturally, and economically expected to take on this role.

This is because women have always had less freedom than men and less access to resources such as education, economic independence, and social capital, which are necessary for them to pursue other life goals or interests outside of the home. This is largely due to centuries of systemic and institutionalized discrimination against women, such as lack of access to education, jobs, and economic resources, which has resulted in a gender-based imbalance of power and agency.
