My dad died right in front of me 10 seconds after dropping me off at school.

Quick back story:

My dad was in a very bad car wreck when he was about 13. (strangely driven by a kid named John, oh look what my dad’s name is).

Not only did this wreck take his brother and sister, it left my dad with significant brain damage. He had a hard time speaking (he could do it, but only just) and remembering things.

He always told me his biggest regret was that he couldn’t speak properly. He had so much to say, but it was impossible for him to get it out.

Then, one day, I was about 14.

I hopped in the car to ride with my dad to school. He was a little grumpy, and he never said a word to me. (not uncommon)

It was a quick drive, just a few minutes. When we got there, he mumbled to me, “I, uh, I, uh, lo-” and then just stopped. I don’t know why I did it, but I just looked at him and said, “love you too, dad.”

He smiled, and I got out of the car. Within 10 seconds of him pulling away, another car ran a red light and slammed right into his. I watched as my father was thrown from the car (he hated wearing his seatbelt) and landed on his head on the ground, right in front of everyone.

I can’t tell you how many people tried to save him, but he passed away in the hospital a few hours later.

I know that this isn’t a weird story, but it seems so strange that I was able to thank him and that he did have a chance to say at least a part of it.

Edit: Wow! This blew up. Thank you, kind stranger, for the gold :)
