My student is getting evicted.

I know many parents are struggling, so I figured I would ask. <br><br>One of my ESL students was on break and came back to class late. I asked him what was wrong. He told me he had called his mom and she was upset with him. I asked if everything was okay. He said he could not buy chipotle so they didn't have dinner tonight. I asked him if he was okay and if they were going to have food soon. He said he couldn't buy chipotle. I pushed on, asking why they did not have food. He told me he was supposed to buy chipotle for dinner, but did not have money. I asked if they were okay and if he could find food tonight. He said they didn't have food because they did not have chipotle and that's what his mom wanted for dinner. I asked if his mom could buy food. He said his mom didn't have money because they were moving. <br><br>I asked where they were moving. He said it was over this weekend. I asked if they didn't have a house. He said they were evicted because they did not have money for the last two months. <br><br>I asked if they didn't get money. He said his dad worked, but they lost money because they cannot get the rent money. I asked if they didn't have a place to stay. He said he could stay with his aunt. I asked if he had food for the rest of the week. He said he could get chipotle with his money.<br><br>I was struck. I had been teaching this student for a long time and his story was not unusual, but it struck me because I saw him so often. I asked if he was okay. He said he didn't have chipotle, so his mom was upset. I asked if they could get food. He said he would try and buy chipotle now. <br><br>I don't know what to do and I have seen this story before. I have asked my principal about food. We do not give food to students because our school district does not have this option. <br><br>I have cried. I am still crying. I don't know what to do. I am scared for this child. I don't know what to do. I am so angry and sad.
