I know, I know, you guys probably hate Ben Shapiro. But I tell you this not as a fan of either Ben or Andrew, but as a person who loves economics and wants others to have a better grasp of how important it is and how hard it is. These two people who are both reasonably financially educated just absolutely butchered some of the most basic econ concepts in this show.

Ben was straight up lying about immigration. If you tell your listeners that immigrants don't compete with natives for jobs you're just lying. The migrate to get jobs, and they take them. Not the best jobs, but they're a part of the labor supply. Ben also said that the'),aren't a net fiscal burden which is a lie. Immigrants are a net fiscal burden. (Yes, I understand that immigrants start businesses, but business owners can be a fiscal burden just as well as workers.

Andrew Yang was asked about the burden of UBI. He said that the answer is that UBI is trying to help people by giving them $1000 dollars a month. Then Ben asked him how he would pay for it. Andrew Yang then launches into a diatribe about how automation is taking jobs and the economy is in trouble. Ben asks that same question again, how do you intend to pay for it? Andrew basically just dodges and says that UBI will help people adapt to automation. Ben asked the question again. Yang didn't answer.

I want to make one thing clear. Both these dudes are smart. Ben probably has read a lot of books on free market economics. And Andrew Yang is a Harvard Law graduate who went into the private sector. These people know that you can't just dodge questions about the burden of something you want to do without sounding absolutely ignorant. Especially when you're on a talk show. Yang probably knew that the burden is on the taxpayers, who will see either higher taxes or inflation, but he didn't want to say that because it would hurt his agenda so he dodged and sounded foolish.

I didn't hear these two individuals sound so ignorant of economics in a long time. If you want proof that politicians and pundits are economically illiterate, listen to this epusode.
