How did countries determine which side to take in WW2?

It’s obviously not as simple as taking the side you agree with more.<br><br>Did countries just literally sit down and determine if Axis or Allies was more beneficial? Or was there more going on?<br><br>Edit: I guess I should have clarified that I was asking for specific countries like Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey etc.<br><br>If you’re asking not for those neutral countries then I guess the answer is pretty clear. Fascist countries join one side, the rest joins the other.
