If you are poor, put the health of your soul above your body. Two days of stress on your body is better than 2 months of stress in your soul.

I’m poor, and I’m not saying I’m the worst case scenario but I’ve been in really bad situations. If you are poor, do whatever you can to keep your mind and soul as healthy as possible. I realize it may be impossible to do so in some cases, so I mean in the situations that you have a choice between keeping your soul %100 or your body %100.

I was in a situation where I had to choose between burning my hair off with a hot flat iron to get gum out of it or spend all of my money on a haircut to get the hair with the gum off. I could not afford both a haircut and food, and it was right after Christmas so there was no one I could borrow money from. I got my hair cut. I was completely broke for 2 days. I was unable to buy food but my body knew that it was a temporary problem, I was able to get a job, and I haven’t had a problem in a really long time.

I know at least 2 friends who went the other way, who ruined their bodies instead of their hair. One got gum in her hair and used a lighter to burn it out and she had fourth degree burns all over her head and almost died. Another got gum in her hair and used acetone to get it out, which dissolved her hair and her scalp and she almost went into a coma from the fumes.

I know that it may be harder for some people to do this, but in general, if you can avoid physically or mentally damaging yourself, do so. If you have to, choose your soul.
