Microsoft hires Apple executive to oversee AI efforts

Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) said on Monday it hired Apple Inc (AAPL.O) executive Kevin Hoffman as corporate vice president to oversee artificial intelligence (AI) efforts across the company.<br><br>Hoffman, who will join the tech giant on Aug. 7, will work under Chief Technology Officer Kevin Scott and report to Chief Product Officer Panos Panay, Microsoft said in a statement.<br><br>The hiring comes as tech majors are investing heavily in AI and as Microsoft has been broadening its efforts in the space from just Office productivity and search.<br><br>Hoffman has worked at Apple for nearly 13 years, holding roles such as senior director of AI for Apple services, Microsoft said.<br><br>Apple could not immediately be reached for comment.
