If I could magically change society in one way, the change would be that the right to vote was determined by the quality of one's arguments.

This would be a massive improvement to our current system of 'one person, one vote' and would definitely lead to better governance, which would benefit everyone.

We could use a combination of human moderators and AI to assess arguments and determine the voting quality of each person, then weight votes by their voting quality.

The 'intelligence' required to be granted any level of voting quality could be quite low - basically you just need to be able to list things you're for or against, and then explain why you're for or against each of those things. If your explanations are of high quality, you would be granted high voting weight, and your opinions would be taken more into account when it came to policy decisions.

You would only lose voting quality for poor arguments, not for holding unpopular opinions. Any argument of basically any quality would be better than the arguments of the average voter, which are mostly 'this person seems nice' or 'my friend said I shouldvote for this person'. The standard is very low right now, so the bar is easy to beat, and most people already beat it anyway.

This would be a great system, and I don't think anyone would disagree.
