My boss said I could have the day off today because he “thought it would be a good idea”

This happened today. I work at a big fast food chain and my boss is an older dude who has been working here for a long time. He’s a great guy and all, but he doesn’t know shit about women’s health. I’ve been having pretty heavy cramps and he just decided he was going to give me the day off because “he thought it would be a good idea.” I didn’t even ask him for it! He just went “hey, I figured you’d probably want the day off today because of your period and I figured it would be a good idea. You’re free to go.” I’ve never been given a day off for this reason before, but I’m not gonna argue with it. It’s nice to feel like someone is taking care of me and respecting that this is a tough time of month for me. I know some people might say “well he’s not supposed to do that.” And yeah I guess he’s not, but I’m not gonna argue with it. I’m just happy he did it for me.

I have to say, as a woman in her late 20s who has had my fair share of periods and cramps, I’m so used to being told “no” or being given some BS excuse for why I can’t just take the day off. My boss is actually the first person to ever just take it upon himself to give me the day off because I’m in pain and he “thought it would be a good idea” for me to take it easy. I’ve had periods bad enough that I couldn’t get out of bed for days and I’ve been denied days off before because my boss didn’t think it was “that bad” or because he thought I was “exaggerating” the pain. It’s really shitty to be treated like that. I’m not gonna lie, it’s nice to finally have a boss who is actually paying attention and trying to be kind.
