CMV: It SHOULD be illegal to use the term "Forever Home" when selling/adopting pets. The idea of a place being a "Forever Home" is extremely unrealistic when you look at divorce rates, moving for jobs, etc.

CMV: It SHOULD be illegal to use the term "Forever Home" when selling/adopting pets. The idea of a place being a "Forever Home" is extremely unrealistic when you look at divorce rates, moving for jobs, etc.

I've read stories of people having to get rid of pets because they are moving for a job where pets aren't allowed, or even because they moved into an area where the breed was illegal. I've heard stories of people getting a dog and then discovering allergies they didn't know they had.

If given the chance, most people will choose themselves over their pets. Most pet owners will choose their job over their pets. Divorce rates are high enough that I can't imagine many pets being kept in a home after the parents separate. I know this is the harsh reality of life.

But why do shelters tell people that the homes they are placing animals into are "Forever Homes" when they have no control over the future? When the person adopting a pet has no control over their future?

Reddit, can you change my view on this?
